Following a few simple tips can help to reduce the severity of symptoms caused by ulcerative colitis. Correcting diet choices, changing lifestyle habits and even natural remedies all have been found to help.

Do follow a well-balance diet
One of the most important aspects to remember about ulcerative colitis is that diet doesn’t cause the condition; it is merely a way of making life more comfortable for sufferers. A well-balanced and nutritious diet is very beneficial. Taking supplements can also help to adjust the nutrient intake and prevent the malnutrition that is commonly seen as a result from ulcerative colitis.

Avoid possible irritants
These involve but are not limited to:

Milk products

Saturated fats as found in animal products and dairy foods

Inflammatory foods such as, caffeine, and refined sugars

Corn products

Intestinal irritants like cabbage, Brussels sprounts, kale, couliflower, and broccoli

High-sugar fruits like watermelon, pineapple and grapes

Eggs, peanuts and soy in moderation

Foods containing gluten, which include foods produced from wheat, barley, triticale and oats

The above products will not affect and/or cause the same reaction on everyone. These suggestions are based on individual reactions and outcomes.

Do drink plenty of water
Hydration, hydration, hydration! Water not only nourishes every single cell in your body, it also flushes your intestines, soothes digestion, all contributing to avoid intestinal irritation.

Don’t drink any alcohol
especially if you are having a flare up. Alcohol can irritate the lining of the colon, and it can also interact with some ulcerative colitis medication.

Do take natural remedies for your ulcerative colitis
Natural remedies have had amazing results for ulcerative colitis sufferes! Remedies such as AloeElite, an aloe based product can be combined with your present medication regimen. Other ulcerative colitis friendly natural remedies are glutamine, slippery elm, fish oil, and cat’s claw.

I was surprised to read about a new type of treatment called helminthic therapy where parasitic worms (whipworms) are actually injected into a person to infect them in the hopes it will get rid of UC. It seems we in the western world have become so efficient at elminating bactieria and pathogens from our water supply that the lack of stimulation to our immune system causes our defenses to go into overdrive and could be a cause of Ulcerative Colitis. By inserting these parasites into our systems it gives our digestive protection system something to sink its proverbial teeth into, evidently taking its mind off attacking the colon. So far testing is in its early stages and safety aspects are being looked at. . One study saw improvements in 35% UC subjects.

Ulcerative Colitis is 2 things, ulcers or sores and inflammation. While researching I found a government review that stated “There is limited but promising research of the use of oral Aloe vera in ulcerative colitis (UC), compared to placebo”.

Aloe vera is known for its healing properties at least on the outside of our skin, so it would go to figure it would possibly help internally. From what I understand Aloe Vera comes in different strengths and will vary in price according to the amount of concentration done to the product. One I’ve heard good things about is AloeElite it is supposedly one of the strongest products on the market.
